Hua ‘Helen’ Wang

Professor of Communication at University at Buffalo, Author, & Award-Winning Changemaker.

Hua “Helen” Wang is a communication scientist who is passionate about using innovative strategies to design, implement, and assess entertainment programs that leverage powerful storytelling, emerging technologies, and communication networks for health promotion, behavior change, and social justice. After earning her Ph.D. from University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, she joined the faculty and is now Professor of Communication at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. 

In the last 18 years, she has worked with Hollywood and Bollywood producers as well as innovative game and experience designers to foster meaningful change in disadvantaged communities around the world. Her interdisciplinary work has appeared in high-impact academic journals and received prestigious awards from the American Public Health Association and the International Communication Association.

Her two forthcoming books are: Storytelling to Accelerate Climate Solutions(co-edited with Emily Coren) and Entertainment-Education: Narrative Communication for Social and Behavior Change (co-authored with Arvind Singhal.
